It began at a family table
Yang's Kitchen Recipe did not begin in a factory. It began at a Nyonya family table, with a young girl and a wooden spoon. Our founder, Seow Bee Lean, was the eldest daughter of a large family, and from an early age the kitchen was her responsibility and her joy. Feeding the people she loved taught her the lesson that still guides the brand today: real flavour is worth the effort.

Learned at her mother's side
Her teachers were her mother and grandmother, both Baba-Nyonya — keepers of a Peranakan kitchen where nothing was written down and everything was tasted. From them she inherited a treasury of recipes built on fragrant, hand-pounded spice pastes (rempah) and rich santan. The layered flavours of Nyonya and Siamese home cooking — curry, kam heong, assam, sambal — became second nature to her.
This is heritage you cannot reverse-engineer — it is passed from hand to hand, and it is the foundation of every paste we make.
A lifetime at the stove
Cooking soon became her craft as well as her calling. Across more than three decades she cooked professionally — for a busy workforce, day after day — the kind of experience that teaches consistency, balance, and respect for good ingredients. That discipline is why every Yang's Kitchen Recipe paste tastes the same, and tastes right, every single time.
From the family table to your kitchen
For most of her life, Bee Lean's cooking was something you could only taste if you sat at her table. In recent years, together with her son, she set out to change that. Marrying her time-honoured recipes with modern food technology, they developed cooking pastes that hold the true flavour of a slow-simmered rempah while staying fresh far longer than a fresh paste ever could. What began as a favourite among family and friends became a brand — named, with quiet pride, for the family: Yang's Kitchen Recipe.
